RG178 Ultra-Micro 50Ω Coaxial Cable MIL-DTL-17 Compliant Coax for high-density applications

Ultra-Micro 50Ω Precision Coax for Tight Spaces

The RG178 is an ultra-micro 50Ω coaxial cable engineered for applications where space is extremely limited, weight must be minimized, and signal integrity cannot be compromised. With a jacket diameter of just 1.80 mm and a weight of only 9.3 g/m, it is one of the smallest and lightest 50Ω coaxial cables available. Despite its tiny footprint, the RG178 delivers 3 GHz bandwidth, 1000 VRMS voltage rating, and continuous operation from -55°C to +200°C. Its FEP jacket provides excellent chemical resistance and low friction, while the stranded silver-plated copper clad steel inner conductor offers a unique combination of high tensile strength and low high-frequency loss.

RG178 Coax Construction

Layer Material Diameter (mm)
1. Inner Conductor Silver-Plated Copper Clad Steel, Stranded 0.30
2. Dielectric Taped PTFE 0.84
3. Outer Conductor Silver-Plated Copper Wire Braid 1.30
4. Jacket Extruded FEP 1.80

RG178 Coax Key Features

  • 1.80 mm Ultra-Micro Outer Diameter – Designed for high-density routing in miniature devices.

  • 9.3 g/m Ultra-Lightweight – Ideal for UAV, aerospace, portable, and wearable RF systems.

  • 10 mm Minimum Bend Radius – Flexible enough for tight corners and complex routing.

  • 50Ω Impedance, 3 GHz Maximum Frequency – Covers WiFi, GPS, SDR, Bluetooth, ISM, and general RF applications.

  • -55°C to +200°C Operating Range – FEP jacket and PTFE dielectric for high-temperature and chemical resistance.

  • Stranded Silver-Plated Copper Clad Steel Conductor – High tensile strength, flex fatigue resistance, and low high-frequency loss.

  • 1000 VRMS Maximum Voltage – Suitable for low-power transmitters and receiver front-ends.

  • Practical Power Handling – Up to 253 W at 0.1 GHz, 120 W at 0.4 GHz, 78 W at 1 GHz, and 41 W at 3 GHz.

Why Choose Our RG178?

  • True Ultra-Micro Design – At 1.80 mm OD and 9.3 g/m, it enables RF routing in spaces where standard coax simply will not fit.

  • Precision 50Ω Performance to 3 GHz – Maintains stable impedance and low capacitance for reliable signal transmission.

  • High Flexibility for Tight Routing – 10 mm bend radius and stranded conductor allow complex, space-saving installations.

  • High-Temperature and Chemical Resistance – FEP jacket and PTFE dielectric survive -55°C to +200°C and resist oils, acids, and moisture.

  • Stranded Copper Clad Steel Conductor – Delivers high tensile strength and flex fatigue resistance, ideal for handheld, wearable, and mobile applications.

  • Practical Power Handling – Up to 78 W at 1 GHz in a 1.8 mm cable, covering many low-power transmit and receive applications.

  • RoHS Compliant – Manufactured with environmentally responsible materials.

RG178 Coax Applications

  • Software-Defined Radio (SDR) – Micro interconnects for compact SDR receivers and transceivers.

  • UAV & Aerospace – Onboard RF links where weight and space are critical.

  • Medical Probes & Endoscopes – Precision signal routing in miniature medical devices.

  • High-Density Test Instruments – RF connections in crowded test fixtures and probes.

  • Portable & Wearable Devices – Lightweight RF routing for mobile electronics.

  • Miniature Antenna Feeders – 50Ω feeds for small antennas in tight enclosures.
